The Golden Key...

    Matthew 13:34... A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

    There is an old song that says, "Love is the Key, the Golden Key... the Key that opens Heaven's Door... As we see by the above verse from the Book of Matthew, that old song is scriptural. Jesus made it a commandment that all Christians LOVE one another, and more than that, he said "even as I have loved you". Bear in mind, He died for us... What kind of love do WE have for each other? Remember, He made it a Commandment!

    Was this something brand new that Jesus put into the form of a commandment?... Let's look at a scripture from the Old Testament, namely from the Book of Proverbs, specifically from Chapter 10, Verse 12...

    ...Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins

    - All sins?- You know, that covers a lot of territory, doesn't it. That would seem to make LOVE the most important attribute that we, as Christians can have. Consider the fact that if we have that kind of love one for another, we will never hurt anyone, never carry tales about each other, never backbite, always help whenever the opportunity arises, never harbor anger one for another, always speak kindly to each other... in fact, it would appear that if we have that kind of love we will necessarily follow all the other commandments and teachings that were given to us in the Word of God. We begin to see that Love is, in all truth, really the Golden Key... the key that opens Heaven's door.

    Have we, in any way, overstated the importance of love in our lives? Let's take a look at what the apostle Paul had to say about it in the Book of 1st. Corinthians, Chapter 13...

    Verse 1... Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
    2...And though i have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
    3...And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
    4... Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
    5...Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
    6...Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
    7...Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

    What is this charity? It boils down to the love of man for his fellow man...the Golden Key... the only one, according to Paul, that will open Heaven's door. It is apparent, then, that without it, we cannot get into heaven, because we don't have the key. Let's tuck this bit of knowledge away in our minds, and draw on it everytime we are among other people. Let's display that love, and live that love, and demonstrate that love to all we make contact with; for by so doing, praise God, we shall possess The Golden Key.

In Jesus' Name,
AMEN
