Curse?...or Blessing?

Romans 8:28... And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I knew a man who married at a very young age. He was deeply in love. 2 years later, when his firstborn son was just one year old, his wife decided that she had made a mistake, and sued him for divorce. He was devastated. He contemplated suicide, he fasted for days, taking not even water. Nevertheless, the divorce was granted. His life was so utterly destroyed that he stood out in the middle of a field and cursed God. He tried to turn his back completely on everything that the Bible taught.

In spite of his desires to die, the man survived and began to realize how much he needed God. He began to pray again. This time he prayed because he was extremely lonely. He asked the Lord to forgive him and to send him someone he could love. Loneliness, he found, was just another thing that causes us to need God and to come to him for help, like every other need that we humans cannot control ourselves.

Soon, he found himself in love again, this time with a beautiful young lady who loved him in return. She knew little about God, but she learned from her husband. As time passed she became the mainstay of his life. She stood by him through every trial that came along, and when it seemed that he himself couldn't stand, she would qoute scripture and pray, and most of all, love him until he would overcome each obstacle that came into his life.

Later, he began to receive reports about his first wife. It seems that her lifestyle was such that if he had stayed with her, he would not only be lost, but in all probability he would be dead. He thought back to the time he had cursed God because he didn't get his own way, and he realized what the Lord had spared him, and cried because of his own ignorance.

Did God bring about that divorce? Absolutely not! God had nothing to do with it. Divorce is against Jesus' teachings except for certain situations. But He also did not stop it, so the situation must have existed. The man thought about the life he now had, and the hell he might have been in, and he praised the Lord. What had seemed to be a curse, turned out to be the most precious blessing this man had ever received.

Does it seem like you are getting a raw deal in your life? Is everything seemingly working against you and what you consider your best interests? Are you losing a job that you feel you can't survive financially without. Ask yourself this question: Are you living in God's will, and doing the things He has called you to do? If the answer is yes, then the prayer you should be praying is for the perfect will of God to be done. If you get your own way, it might be the worst thing that ever happened to you. But if the Lord God gets His will done, you will find yourself in the middle of a situation which could turn out to be one of the best things that ever happened to you. You will find that the "curse" turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Sometimes the ways of the Lord God are beyond our comprehension.

Remember this, the Lord God almighty knows everything about us and our lives, and He is on our side. Always claim and cling to Romans 8:28....

...And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

In Jesus' Name,
AMEN
