The Great Commission
![]() |

Mark 16:15... And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel
to every creature.
16... He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17... And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18... They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands
on the sick, and they shall recover.

These were the words of Jesus to the Eleven just before he was received up into heaven.
to sit at the right hand of God. It is known as the Great Commission, and it is encumbent on every Christian to do his or her level best
to carry it out. While we are not of the world, we are definitely in and before the world.
And believe it or not, there has never been a more factual statement than this... "You're the only Bible that some
people read."

At this time we are entering into a new year... that's one year closer to the return of Jesus
to this earth. And with each passing year the forces of anti-christ try harder and harder to destroy and discredit Christianity. It's hard to
understand why anyone would try so hard to destroy a teaching that urges all men to love one another. Nevertheless, they do. They are
continually trying to steal our Christian Holidays and corrupt them into something totally meaningless. Instead of Jesus at the center of
Christmas, they have made it "Santa Clause". All-Saints Day has been overshadowed by "Halloween"...something dominated by
Satanic offerings. Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Christ, has been renamed "Spring Break", and Jesus, more and more,
is being replaced by the "Easter Bunny". It is a neverending quest to destroy all references to Christ, and all aspects of Christian life
and living.

While it is hard to understand the reason for the hatred, it is not hard at all to understand
the reasoning behind the methods. If Jesus is put at his rightful place, at the center of our Christian Holidays and our Christian lives,
where it is our duty to keep him, then his Name will forever be shining before the world. But if they succeed in replacing him with pagan
figures, then we will have met with sad failure in our duty to follow the Great Commission. If Christians become just like everyone else in
the world, then where is the incentive to follow Christ?

Just for a time, let us consider these things in the Old Testament. Remember, God insisted
upon the celebrations of different times ( the Feast of the Passover, the Feast of the Dedication, etc.) when He performed great
deeds for his people. Why? Don't you think that it was... "lest the people forget"? He wanted his people, even those who were not
there when the events took place, to remember the great things done for them by their God, and to display their gratitude before the
world . But do we have a right to refer to the Old Testament in these things? Let us look at Romans, 15:4...

4... For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning,, that we through patience and
comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

It is apparent then that God still wants his people to commemorate the great things He has
done for them, not for his own pleasures, but so that the world might know that He lives, and loves, and acts, even in this day
and time. In other words, to keep the blessed light shining so that the Great Commission will be fulfilled by every means available to
those whose duty it is to fulfill it. Let us consider....
Matthew 5:16...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Doesn't that light shine even brighter when we honor our God by comemorating, for all the
world to see, all the wonderful things He has given us? Let's remember the Great Commission, and use every means available to us
to carry it out. That means not just what we say, but everything we do also. Let's try to make it a desirable thing to be a Christian. Let's
let the world know about the great things God has done for us, in the name of his Son, Jesus, and refuse to allow the forces of the
Anti-Christ to achieve their purposes. And let's be ever wary of those who seek to discredit and destroy our faith. Let's work together
in love and respect and unity to carry out,...
